Ignite & the Ocean
As well as our work with the RNLI and our monthly donations, we have also partnered with Clean Planet UK who are a registered charity helping to clean our ocean by removing ghost fishing gear from the sea and recycling what they find to keep waste out of landfill.
If you would like to get involved, you can check them out here.
We insure a large share of the UK fishing fleet and have a sense of responsibility when it comes to looking back after the ocean and its eco-system, something we feel pretty strongly about. We absolutely love the work that Clean Planet are doing and so we have decided to partner with them and offer regular donations to assist them with the great work they are doing.
What does ghost gear do to the Sea?
Ghost gear is a serious problem that affects marine wildlife and habitats worldwide. It is estimated that there are millions of tons of ghost gear in our oceans, causing entanglement, injury, and death to marine animals. Ghost gear also damages sensitive marine habitats, such as coral reefs and seagrass beds, and contributes to the global problem of plastic pollution.
What does Clean Planet UK do?
Clean Planet UK's team of experienced divers and volunteers use advanced techniques to locate and retrieve ghost gear from the ocean floor. They also conduct educational programs and awareness campaigns to promote sustainable fishing practices and encourage responsible disposal of fishing gear.
What can you do?
Their work is made possible by the generosity of donors and supporters who share their commitment to protecting our oceans and marine life. Your donation will help them continue their vital work to remove ghost gear from the ocean, prevent further damage to marine ecosystems, and promote sustainable fishing practices.
